French

What will I learn?

Our aim is to promote a love of language learning and an appreciation of different cultures. All pupils study French during Years 7 and 8. Among departmental staff there is a visiting French Assistant who takes small groups for French conversation.

Year 7

In Year 7, we follow the Studio course to prepare pupils for GCSE from the beginning. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed through a range of activities and resources.

Year 8

In Year 8, we start to follow the new Studio 2 course to continue preparing pupils for GCSE. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed through a range of activities and resources.

Year 9

In Year 9, we start to follow the foundation French GCSE Pearson Edexcel course. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed through a range of activities and resources.

Pupils will already be familiar with some of the topics covered at GCSE and they will learn to discuss new themes which are:

  • My personal world

  • Lifestyle and wellbeing

  •  My neighbourhood

  •  Media and technology

  •  Studying and my future

  •  Travel and tourism

Having already gained a good understanding of grammar, pupils will learn to communicate effectively and with spontaneity when speaking and writing. We use the French higher GCSE Pearson Edexcel course.
