Music

Our very successful Music Department is accommodated in a purpose built Music School which includes practice and teaching rooms equipped with pianos, a large teaching room with a computer suite and an excellent Music Studio for rehearsals and concert evenings. The school also has a theatre for solo concerts, a 6th form area for Recital Evenings and several teaching rooms and a performing arts studio in the Junior School. All main orchestral instruments are taught by a dedicated team of Visiting Music Teachers many of whom direct the school groups. A vibrant department offers diverse ensembles and many choirs which rehearse during the week.

PERFORM

Concerts during the year include regular Lunchtime Concerts, Beginners’ Concerts, Junior School assembly performances, Evening Recitals, Chamber Evenings, the annual House Music Competition, a Carol Service at St. George’s Minster, and large scale End of Term Concerts.

The Department takes part in local and national music festivals including the Mrs Sunderland Festival, the National Concert Band Festival, Music for Youth and the Don Valley Festival. The school also hosts the very successful annual Robin Hood Music Festival.

The standard award for a scholarship is a 10% reduction in fees. Music Scholars can also receive free tuition in 2 instruments.

Parents of pupils awarded scholarships who require additional financial support are able to apply to the Bursar for an additional reduction from the school fees. See our Scholarships and Bursaries page for more details.
