Mrs Elizabeth Paver, 1944-2024

Chair of Governors, 2005-2017

It was with great sadness that we heard of the recent death of Liz Paver, known to, and loved by, so many in the Hill House community.

Retired Headteacher of Intake Primary School, Liz served Hill House with great commitment for many years, progressing from Hill House parent to Governor to Chair of Governors. She was a woman of remarkable energy and passion for children and young people.

Among other accolades, Liz served as Vice Chair of the General Teaching Council and was president of the National Association of Headteachers. A member of the General Synod of the Church of England, she was recently awarded the Cross of St Augustine by the Archbishop of Canterbury for her services to the Anglican Communion.

Headmaster David Holland said; ‘Liz devoted great time, energy and wisdom to Hill House and to our pupils. She was a great supporter of the school and continued to attend many school events for the years after she had stepped down as Chair of Governors; we also greatly enjoyed the support of her family, especially her husband Richard.’

‘As Headmaster, Liz was my original Chair of Governors at Hill House, and her support, friendship and guidance was a great strength to me for many years. Liz chaired the Board of Governors for what is probably the most significant period in the history of the school, making the monumental decision to relocate the school and guiding it masterfully through the process of relocating from Doncaster to Auckley. It was this which laid the foundations for the growth and success which the school and its pupils have subsequently enjoyed. All of us at Hill House owe Liz Paver a great debt of thanks.’

Liz passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Her funeral took place at St.Wilfrid’s Church, Cantley, and such was the love and respect for her that the packed congregation overspilled into the churchyard. She will be greatly missed.
