Hill House Pupils Celebrate Record Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Success at Buckingham Palace

Last month, 29 pupils from Hill House School had the privilege of attending the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Celebration at Buckingham Palace, marking a truly outstanding achievement and a record number of Gold Award recipients from the school.

The special event brought together young people from across the country who have successfully completed the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Set within the magnificent grounds of Buckingham Palace, the celebration recognised the dedication, perseverance and commitment required to achieve this prestigious award.

The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and rewarding programmes available to young people. Participants are required to demonstrate sustained commitment across volunteering, physical activity, skill development and a residential experience, culminating in a demanding expedition. Achieving the award requires determination, resilience and a willingness to step beyond one’s comfort zone. The attendance of 29 Hill House pupils at this year’s celebration represents a significant milestone for the school and reflects the strength of the Duke of Edinburgh’s programme at Hill House. Throughout their journey, pupils have devoted hundreds of hours to volunteering, developing new skills and challenging themselves physically and mentally.

Staff were immensely proud to see such a large group of pupils recognised at this prestigious national event. Beyond the award itself, the experiences gained through the programme help young people develop confidence, independence, leadership and a sense of responsibility that will serve them well in the future. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is just one example of the many opportunities available at Hill House School for pupils to develop and exercise leadership skills, a key feature of the school that was recognised as a significant strength in its recent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).

Hill House School would also like to extend its sincere thanks to Mrs Frisby, Head of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, whose dedication and encouragement have played a pivotal role in the success of the programme. Her commitment to guiding and inspiring pupils throughout their Duke of Edinburgh journey has helped countless young people achieve this prestigious award and make the most of the opportunities it provides.
