Outstanding Young Talent on Display at the First Very Young Musician of the Year Competition

Hill House School was delighted to welcome talented young musicians from schools across the region for the first Very Young Musician of the Year 2026 competition.

Following the success of the Robin Hood Music Festival, this exciting new event was created to provide a platform for primary school-aged children studying at Grade 3 standard and above to showcase their musical talents in a supportive and inspiring environment. The competition attracted a remarkable standard of performance, with competitors demonstrating impressive technical ability, musicality and confidence throughout the day.

The event featured performances across a range of instruments and styles, creating an enjoyable and varied programme for the audience and adjudicator alike. As a brand-new addition to the musical calendar, The Very Young Musician of the Year proved a tremendous success and highlighted the wealth of young musical talent within our region's schools.

Hill House School was delighted to welcome Nigel Martin as independent adjudicator. An experienced music educator and specialist recorder tutor, Nigel brought a wealth of expertise to the competition, and his thoughtful feedback and encouragement were greatly appreciated by all involved.

The school would also like to thank Ackerman Music for sponsoring the event and providing an excellent selection of prizes. Their support helped make the occasion even more memorable for all competitors.

The school extends its congratulations to all the young performers who took part and contributed to such a memorable celebration of music. We look forward to welcoming competitors back next year as The Very Young Musician of the Year continues to grow from strength to strength.
