Hill House Hosts the North’s Largest Girls’ Rugby 7s Festival

Hill House School in Doncaster has once again demonstrated its status as one of the country’s leading schools for girls’ rugby by hosting the largest girls’ 7s rugby festival in the North this weekend.

The annual Hill House Girls’ Rugby 7s Tournament, still in its early years, continues to grow rapidly. This year saw 28 teams compete across four age groups, from U12s through to U18s, celebrating the strength and growth of girls’ rugby across the UK.

Teams travelled from across the country to compete at the Hill House Sports Ground in Blaxton, Doncaster. Alongside local sides such as Selby RUFC, Mansfield RFC and The King’s High School in Pontefract, schools and clubs journeyed from further afield, including Millfield School in Somerset, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School in Birmingham and Peter Symonds College in Winchester.

The tournament, sponsored by Handelsbanken and streamed live by NextGen Live, showcased some of the best emerging girls’ rugby talent in the country as schools prepare for the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens competition next week.

Hill House School has built a strong reputation as a powerhouse of girls’ rugby. The school regularly competes at the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens and has enjoyed notable success in recent years, most recently when the Hill House Under 16 girls were crowned joint national champions last year, the same team having also won 2 years previously in the U14s competition.

“We are incredibly proud to host what has quickly become one of the biggest girls’ rugby festivals in the North,” said Mr Jacob Robinson, Head of Girls’ Rugby at Hill House School. “The standard of rugby on display was outstanding, and it was fantastic to welcome teams from across the country to Doncaster. Events like this are so important for showcasing the growth of the girls’ game, and we’re already looking forward to building on it again next year.”

The festival concluded with a series of exciting finals across all age groups:

  • U12 Winners: Selby RFC
  • U14 Winners: Hill House School
  • U16 Winners: Millfield School
  • U18 Winners: Millfield School

The success of this year’s tournament further cements Hill House School’s commitment to developing girls’ rugby and providing opportunities for young players to compete at the highest level.
