Young Athletes Shine at New Doncaster Sportswoman of the Year event

Young sportswomen from across the region gathered at Hill House School Doncaster on Friday 18 September for the inaugural Doncaster and District Young Sportswoman of the Year event.

Nearly 20 pupils, aged 9 – 11 years, from across the region took part in the exciting new competition, which tested speed, skill, agility and determination.

Under the evening floodlights on the Hill House School astroturf, the competitors completed a HYROX-style course featuring six activity stations inspired by popular sports. From netball goals and rugby tackle pads to football shooting and cricket stump throws, they demonstrated their sporting abilities as family and friends cheered them on.

Hill House School’s Director of Sport, Mrs Katie Vickers, praised the determination and effort shown by every competitor. She said: “All of the girls competing tonight gave 100% effort, and it was fantastic to see the support from family and friends. It was a pleasure to host this wonderful event. Hill House is a trailblazer for girls’ sport, and we wanted to create something that truly supports the growth of women’s sport in Doncaster and the wider region.”

Whilst all competitors were awarded a Hill House School Gift Bag, generous sports vouchers were received by the top 3 places:

  • 1st place – Cece Fairhurst
  • 2nd place – Belle Richardson
  • 3rd Place – Lilly Duffty

Congratulations to all the competitors who made the inaugural event such a success. We look forward to welcoming young sportswomen from across the region back for many more annual competitions.
