Full House as Dr. Lucy Worsley Delights Audience with Fresh Insights into Jane Austen

An audience of 350 people gathered last night for a special evening with Dr Lucy Worsley, OBE, as the celebrated historian delivered a captivating exploration of the life and legacy of Jane Austen.

The event, held in the lead-up to the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth, offered attendees a richly detailed look at the spaces, possessions, and personal experiences that shaped one of Britain’s most beloved authors.

Before the main event, Dr Worsley hosted an exciting seminar with a group of Hill House History pupils, giving them a unique opportunity to engage directly with her expertise.

With her signature warmth, humour, and depth of research, Dr Worsley brought Austen’s world vividly to life during the lecture, revealing the passionate, witty woman behind the novels that have resonated with readers for generations.

The event also featured a pop-up bookstall from friends of Hill House School, Fox Lane Books, who joined the evening to offer a range of Dr Worsley’s works, including her acclaimed book on Jane Austen, to enthusiastic attendees.

Lucy's visit was the first of four lectures to be hosted by the school this year, as part of the Hill House Lecture Series - a series of free talks which provide an opportunity to actively engage with experts and learn from their experience.

As the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth approaches, the celebration of her enduring legacy continues, but for many in attendance, this night with Dr Lucy Worsley will remain a highlight!
