Headmaster's Awards for U14 Hockey North-East Finalists

The Hill House U14 Girls’ Hockey team were delighted this week to secure a place at the North-East Hockey Finals in November.

Having already won the South Yorkshire title with a strong victory over Sheffield High School, the girls started the Yorkshire Finals with a convincing, if slightly frantic, 4-0 win over Rishworth School.

The next match was a very tense affair against Ampleforth College, who led 1-0 at half-time through a penalty corner. In a thrilling second half fightback, the Doncaster girls pressed for an equaliser, which came after Gabriella Bowerman converted a slick passing move. With Sophie Bundy tireless in midfield, Hill House pressed for the winner; Bella Holgate duly threaded a perfect pass to Bowerman who steered the ball past the Ampleforth goalkeeper in the dying seconds to seal a 2-1 triumph.

Needing to defeat Pocklington School to secure a place in the next round, Captain India Leach dominated the game with some exquisite passing, with Nektaria Pericleous and Georgie Arnold commanding in defence. Striker Holgate converted 2 stunning strikes as the girls ran out 2-0 winners. With qualification secure, an understandably weary Hill House then played out a 0-0 draw with Hymer’s College.

The girls are now excited to be the third Hill House team in as many years to appear at the North East Finals, where one of the four qualifiers will earn a coveted place at the National Hockey Finals.

In response to this wonderful achievement, the girls were each presented with The Headmaster's Award in assembly on 10 October 2025. The Headmaster’s Award is part of Hill House’s initiative to acknowledge pupils who go above and beyond in sports, the arts, and other extracurricular pursuits. The award was introduced in conjunction with the school’s recent accolade of being named Independent Secondary School of the Year North 2025 by The Sunday Times' Parent Power School Guide.
