Hill House Celebrates DofE Success at Buckingham Palace!

Hill House, which boasts one of the largest school centres for the Duke of Edinburgh Award in the North of England, was delighted to almost take over Buckingham Palace earlier this week at the Gold Award ceremonies.

The Gold award, which takes 2 years to complete, is one of the most challenging qualifications to achieve at school, comprising sections including learning new skills, undertaking charity work, and completing the famously difficult Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

We were therefore thrilled to see a record 18 recent or current pupils honoured, each with a parent in attendance, at this week's garden parties at Buckingham Palace. Guests were treated to afternoon tea, music from military bands, addresses from various inspirational speakers, and the opportunity to explore the famous gardens. All this was completed with a speech by HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, in which he congratulated all the Gold Award winners and commended them for their strength of character in successfully joining the select group of Gold Award holders.

Headmaster David Holland, attending in his capacity as a parent himself, was delighted with the event, saying "it was such a great pleasure to see so many

Hill House families at the Palace. We are delighted to provide all our Sixth Formers with this life-changing opportunity to do Duke of Edinburgh. To see them enjoy their day so much, and to witness the pride of their parents at their success, was a truly uplifting experience. The Duke of Edinburgh Award teaches crucial basics, including the importance of service, strength of character and personal resilience, all of which will stand these pupils and alumni in great stead for their futures. It is a crucial part of the renowned, holistic education at Hill House".
