Duke of Edinburgh Expeditioners Exit Lockdown

We were delighted to see our first Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition of the year take place last weekend, with pupils camping in the school grounds and walking for 3 days on routes around the Isle of Axholme, Finningley and North Nottinghamshire.

This year, the Silver Award has been part of our innovative Friday 6 Activity Period, and all members of Year 10 have participated, leading to a record 60 pupils undertaking the expedition over the weekend.

Duke of Edinburgh Co-ordinator Rachel Frisby said, ‘it was lovely to see the pupils developing the skills of map reading, long distance walking, camp craft and the general resilience which goes with D of E. It was also heart-warming to see the responses of members of the public, who were delighted to see school children doing normal, outdoors things again!’

Year 10 can now look forward to their final expedition in Nidderdale in June, while our Sixth Form Gold groups set off to North Yorkshire next weekend.
