Buzzing with Brilliance at the Spelling Bee

Huge congratulations to all the teams who joined us for this year’s Doncaster and District Schools’ Spelling Bee on Tuesday 12 March!

Now in its 3rd year, we welcomed a total of 17 schools to compete in the annual Spelling Bee which is becoming a well-loved event across the region, allowing children to demonstrate their academic talents in a wonderfully supportive atmosphere.

Over 80 children joined in with the competition, starting with a written round where competitors took to the stage with the hope of securing their place in the next round.

Whilst the scores were carefully assessed, the audience enjoyed a lovely musical interlude from Hill House pupils, Remi Gedeon (Year 6) and Charlotte Dalby (Year 11).

Next up came a nail-biting knockout round in front of teachers, family and fellow pupils for the top ten scorers of round one.

Head of Hill House Senior School, Mrs Caroline Rogerson, said "It was an exciting competition! All of the children had prepared well and had clearly worked hard to come this far. The knockout round was particularly tense as we got closer to revealing the top 3 places!”

Thank you to Jeremy Harris, Deputy Chief Executive Officer from the Rose Learning Trust, for presenting the awards as follows:

1st Individual Place – Matthew Holden (Copley Junior School)

2nd Place – Nithara Pandri (Kirk Sandall Junior School)

3rd Place – Freddie Johns (Auckley School)

Team award – Branton St Wilfrids C of E Primary School

Congratulations to all participants and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event a resounding success!
