Hill House Girls star in 4th National Finals in 7 years

The Hill House 1st XI Girls Hockey Team represented the North-East in a compelling National T4 Hockey Finals at the Nottingham Hockey Centre this week (Monday 6 February).

In the group stages, the girls started strongly with an early goal by Trixie Morrison-Parry against Midlands champions Abbotsholme, but fell prey to a breakaway solo effort and were unable to convert further chances to finish 1-1.

A hard-fought defensive effort led by captain Mia Austin against South-East champions Caterham School was not enough to avoid a 0-1 defeat in game two, but an outstanding second half performance in the final group game gave a stunning 2-1 victory over West of England Champions Katherine Lady Berkeley School, with a strike for Lulu Morrison-Parry winning the game with the final hit.

Qualifying second in their group, the girls then played out a 0-0 draw in their 3rd place play off against East Champions Brentwood School, despite dominating throughout the first half, with Lucy Hucknall, Niamh Doody and Erin Yates all outstanding in attack, before losing in the inevitable penalty shoot-out.

Headmaster David Holland was very proud of the girls’ efforts, saying "the team demonstrated great resilience and skill, showing themselves again to be the equals of some of the best hockey teams in the country. To have represented the North-East in four of the last seven years at National Finals is a testament to the hard work of all the players, coaches and parents at Hill House over the last decade. I am also very grateful for the amazing level of support from all our parents and past pupils, who attended the finals in large numbers and whose encouragement and commitment is an inspiration for the girls."
